Now the literacy rate of India is 70-75% that means 70-75% 0f Indian population is at least having a primary education. While talking about Indian education or Indian education system it’s been observed that the attitude, the vision of education seekers, education providers and parents has been changed. But the education system is still same. Students are being taught to do the work assigned to them without using their brains much. And that is why the modern education system was started in India. A British lord Thomas Babington Macaulay came to India in 1830’s to observe Indian people and culture as send by British parliament. Macaulay studied the situation, went back to England and presented the information he collected about Indian people, their culture and most important the education system. After a debate he got his way to establish a modern education system in India having English as the standard language. So that Indians can communicate with British. The real reason behind all this was, The East India Company wanted man power who can work according to their orders. But they were not able to bring all of them from their country, so they taught English to Indians for communication, and obey their orders. We are following the same thing till now the only difference is India is independent now. According to a paper presented by UNICEF at the meeting of The International Working Group on Education Florence, Italy. Children have a right to education, a quality education where quality education include- Learners who are healthy, well-nourished and ready to participate and learn, and Supported in learning by their families and communities; Environments that are healthy, safe, protective and gender-sensitive, and provide Adequate resources and facilities; Content that is reflected in relevant curricula and materials for the acquisition of Basic skills, especially in the areas of literacy, numeracy and skills for life, and Knowledge in such areas as gender, health, nutrition, HIV/AIDS prevention and Peace. Processes through which trained teachers use child-centered teaching approaches in Well-managed classrooms and schools and skilful assessment to facilitate learning and reduce disparities. Outcomes that encompass knowledge, skills and attitudes, and are linked to National goals for education and positive participation in society. Now we have to decide how many of the above mentioned conditions our education system fulfills. India produces the maximum no of engineering graduates throughout the world though India is still a developing country. I read a funny but with full of tragedy lines on internet that “we engineers have forgotten much more math’s and science than you ever learned”. And its truth because according to our education system memorizing something is more important than understanding it. As the more you memorize the more you can write in exams, and the more you will score. It’s been told many times by the job providers that the reason behind unemployment is lack of skills in graduates. Now I ask from where the students are supposed to get the skills rather than schools or colleges? Students pay thousands and thousands of fees then it is responsibility of education providers to such implement knowledge and skills in students which is required in market and industries. That is what a qualitative education is known as. Students should also have skills and talents rather than academics of his/hers choice. It may be singing, dancing, writing or any art or sport. Indian youth has ability to face and solve each and every problem the country has only they need is proper guidance. More than that I will say education is the basic solution of almost every social problem. Only thing is it should be in proper quality and quantity.
